The Importance of Cleaning Feeders

Cleanliness is important for any hobby or job.  Just like how painters clean their brushes or how mechanics clean their tools after use, it is important to maintain bird feeders in a similar manner.

Regularly cleaning feeders helps maintain their good condition for a longer period of time.  Not only that, but it prevents transferring avian diseases such as conjunctivitis and salmonellosis.  Two diseases which, if left untreated, can cause a lot of harm to our backyard birds.

Cleaning feeders is easy with the some soap, water, and the right brush!  Sanitizing feeders with one part bleach to nine parts water can also keep any harmful diseases from affecting your birds.

So the next time you go to fill your feeder, ask yourself when was the last time you cleaned your feeders?
